Getting much deeper into my supposition may be difficult and could prove me wrong, but I do my best. The government data I found about car crashes with child fatalities, stops tracking "children" after the age of 14, nor is it cross referenced with whether or not the death was Police Officer involved. How do you know the 58 non-emergency deaths were all kids? I don't they could be 100% adults. For the sake of argument however, I will assume these crashes had the same statical distribution of deaths in car accidents of children under 14, or 3%, link as was seen in 2012. For this however, I must modify the estimate of 'children killed in school shootings since Columbine' to include only those 14 years of age or younger. The new estimate of children killed in school shooting will not include any collage students, teachers, or 15+ year olds. Columbine 0; (All victims over 14) Deming MS 1; Theo J. Buell ES 1; Santana HS 1; (Bryan Zuckor) Red Lake HS 0; (All victims over 14) West Nickel Mines AS 5; Chardon HS 0; (All victims over 14) Sandy Hook 20; Reynolds HS 1; Source augmented with various wiki's That gives us 29 children under 14 killed by the hands of gunmen in the last 15.5 years. where is the proof the police were driving recklessly? I will assume that the officer driving was at fault in about half of ALL crashes, yielding to the lower number of the 58 non emergency deaths over the 3 years for which I have data. I will assume cops are better drivers than the general population, but also drive more recklessly, I think that is a fair number. If the 'Officer At Fault' death rate has been the same over the last 15.5 years (I don't have older data) that gives us ~300 Officer at Fault Deaths since Columbine, 3% of which, (9 deaths) would be children would be children under 14. That suggests I'm wrong I guess. However Removing Sandy Hook as the statical outlier, Children are just as likely to be killed by a Cop driving recklessly as a gunman. I would like to note that cars, and car seats, have become much safer for children since Columbine. If I had bigger data sets, and more time, perhaps I could prove my point valid. Nonetheless, police officers have done little to nothing to stop most school shootings, the killer usually offs himself first, and their time might better be served learning how not to drive like an asshole, (as they so often do even when their lights aren't on) than scaring kids, for the sake of a drill they will most likely never see real world. If anyone else can come up with better numbers, or knows how to use government data better, I'd like to see the results. I still could be right, but for now I will resign my earlier statement.
