All the Highway Commissioner and I care about is the road department and meeting the township needs by serving as public servants. I have had nothing to do with spying on the front office, other than being told by the front office girls themselves what they had learned and reported to the Supervisor. I felt complacent, but as you can see, henchmen are in waiting. There was enough misappropriations of funding in the road department to make my head spin, for example, spending $700 on Uncle Lenny's chicken and then coding the bill as a Road & Bridge expenditure done by the former administration. I can understand why two of the front office girls would be resentful and do have apathy for their situation. We did get behind somewhat in our mowing responsibility because a certain former employee decided to abuse her compensation and not show up for the entire month of July, completely disrupting the work schedule. Anyway, just as Poetic Justice was trying to say, "Speak up people, don’t turn your eyes away .." its people's own apathy that has allowed this to continue. Mrs. Hawkins may love the limelight, who doesn't, but her heart is honest and she hates theft and dishonesty from public officials. I don't know how she has done this as long as she has. My husband is just as demanding of me as he is the highway workers, I get no special privileges being his wife. We have an awesome crew now, they work very hard. They are dedicated and truly care about the township, I believe .. Yes, I spent a great deal of time initially in the front office, learning and looking for all things road department, gathering forms, setting up the filing system - it was quite an experience. I truly feel that I am now able to serve as I have always wanted to do.
