There are so many unanswered questions that a forensic audit of the district's books would answer.
There was enough money in the district to buy what is now the church at the corner of Stratford and Maryville.
It was owned by Mark Eavenson, brother of Brad Eavenson, the GCSD Director of Buildings and Grounds or some other hokey, over paid position.
So out of no where the district purchases it and plops a GCSD9 sign out in front. Now, kapow, it's apparently been sold to be used as a church again, or the district is now in the "landlord/rental property" business.
That's one situation I would like to see explained, and about a thousand more.
*FORENSIC AUDIT
*NO RAISES FOR TEACHERS (Negotiate their contract hard and stick to it, let them strike, it's not like any other districts are hiring)
*CUT ADMINISTRATION
*SALARY CUTS FOR REMAINING ADMINISTRATORS
*NO GAS/VEHICLE ALLOWANCE FOR JIM GREENWALD THAT ADDS THOUSANDS EACH YEAR TO HIS SALARY
*FIND OUT WHY WE PAID MILLIONS TO THE ILLINOIS CENTER FOR AUTISM AND HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS AMONG A THOUSAND OTHER PLACES
*SALARY CUTS FOR UNION CUSTODIANS and UNION SECRETARIES and UNION COOKS, UNION BUILDING MAINTENANCE WORKERS
*LET THE ATHLETIC TEAMS DO WHAT THE BAND DID, Fund Raise for new uniforms (heaven forbid), and charge the parents a fee for the extra cirriccular activity.
*CONSIDER AN ABRUPT STOP TO PURCHASING RIDICULOUSLY PRICED TEXT BOOKS, GO DIGITAL
*REVIEW AND AUDIT ALL THE WORKMAN'S COMP CASES THAT ARE BROUGHT AGAINST THE DISTRICT, many times by relatives of administrators. Review and audit all the settlements, see who is claiming what and how much the taxpayers paid for. MOST PEOPLE WOULD BE SHOCKED if you knew the truth.
Without a doubt there will be those who consider all of these suggestions as a "drop in the bucket", so what? Drops starting adding up which is very obvious if you review the schools financial disclosures.
Stop the financial bleeding, stop the absurdly high union salaries and benefits for support staff (i.e. BUST THE UNIONS and hire regular, un-connected citizens) tighten their belt, get it done for the kids, AFTER THE FORENSIC AUDIT.
