Here2Stay, ultimately every school district, every public body is required to be audited. No auditor worth his salt would jeopardize his reputation to cover up numbers. My advice to the union would be to request a copy of the audit. Keep in mind, those are internal audits. They are done by an outside agency. I keep hearing about a forensic audit. Basically, that's a more detailed version of a standard general accounting principles audit. No idea how much that would cost but my guess is it would be pricey. But here's the real question that generates in my mind. IF the union doesn't trust the information by the board hired auditor, what possible good would it do for the board to pay for another one? If the findings were the same, would the union again challenge it? I sure the hell would. So keeping with your original comment, I would hire my own auditor. If he finds something of major disturbance I would make that a public issue and with my nerve then demand the board reimburse me for it. If my audit found nothing I would quietly sink back down in my chair and hope my union membership didn't hang my ass. Remember as well that any audit no matter how detailed (forensic) will only show money that has already been spent. What the school system must be focused on now is controlling how future funds will be spent. What the school system should focus on is figuring out a way to live within the means that the state cuts have left them with. What the school system should focus on now is making sure that kids in Granite have every opportunity that they can be given without bankrupting the district. I don't want to see pointing fingers or accusations. Let's face it, both union and management as in any business have their sides. I want to see recommendations, plans and results.
