I taught my children that you don't start or borrow trouble, you don't bully, and you follow the rules. But MY rules was, if someone is making your life miserable with names, insults, and especially getting physical...you have my and your father's permission to knock their head clean off their neck and we'll deal with the consequences when they come. Raising my children to be respectful, kind and considerate to others DID NOT include teaching them to be a freakin' door mat. My Golden Rule: Don't start any sh*t, but put an end to it if it comes your way. And any school administrator, teacher, monitor or whoever, who expects my child or grandchild to simply stand idly by and not fight back to defend themselves while being pummeled by some dull-witted, attention hungry brat, out of fear of being punished or expelled...bwahahahahhaaa....they could kiss my hind end. I'd have my bail money already in my purse, no need to even drop by the ATM on the way to the station. The bottom line, don't start it, but finish it and that will usually put a bully in their place. At least it worked for us and the bully in A Christmas Story! And a quick P.S., I have seen many times the bully themselves (especially mean girls) who will threaten, stalk and make another girl's life a living hell, and they are ALWAYS the one who will run to the principal or police first when the one being bullied has had enough of it.
