Well even if he isn't interested in the military route, they still hire a lot of engineers that are civilians. I know a couple who went in that direction. You really can't go wrong with an engineering degree. I would only suggest, if he is interested in a specific sector, then I would look into which universities are recruited for that particular field. I wish him the best of luck!
