I currently sit on the Pontoon Beach Village Board. This was brought to the board 1 year ago. It was rushed and the first of its kind in Illinois. The board passed to see the results at that time. The board then spoke with other communities and found the savings was there and they were happy with the move after 6 months. Thats when we allowed it to have public hearings and put it on the ballot. I was surprised at the lack of interest by the residents, but with the "Opt Out" option, nobody is forced that doesnt want to change. I work in the electrical field, so I was apprehensive at these savings along with others on the board. the other municipalities said their residents saved between 20-28% on the final bill which is significant to me... If the bid would of came in higher than the current rate, there would have no change....
