I agree with protecting the children. There may be instances where the law should be looked at a little closer, but in the case of statutory rape - depending on the ages of the individuals involved - that should definitely remain.
Also, I disagree with the comment on the offenses not going up and the reporting being more. I think offenses are increasing along with reporting.
Offenses increasing in number just as the sexualizing of culture increases. As porn use increases and the devaluing of humans as no more than the way they look - increases.
As those who abuse children - abuse more than one typically and a percentage of those children, grow up to offend as well, according to the data.
So yes, I believe it is increasing, don't see how it couldn't, given the facts.
The very reason we are all much more careful with our kids these days than in years past.
