If the number of students in the district are declining each year, what is a few hundred more
Ask the teachers in Granite who already think they have too many students.
First of all, the elementary schools would stay where they are
And you know this how?
There is one reason why you all don't like this idea, and it has nothing to do with FACTS and everything to do with FEARS.
Oh, and now you're a mind reader Dee? You're wrong my friend. There isn't one shred of evidence that supports this type of consolidation helping anyone. You're not stating facts so far, you're stating opinion.
But it's people with fears and big mouths that would sour this in no time.
Wow that's pretty judgemental Dee. I guess you're a biggot against those who don't think like you. I'm disappointed in you to say the least.
Afterall, who are the newsmakers? The students and teachers at Madison? Or the ones at Granite City
I'm only interested in the news about my city. I'm sure Venice and Madison have many problems with staff and students.
As for the number of students, sounds like you did a little homework. However, you simplify things. Any influx of students who can't bring more to the table than they take are creating a further strain on our district. Four more kids in an elementary class could force the hiring of another teacher. That's about an additional $60 grand. Local taxes in Madison provide about 2 million dollars to their budget. Will that two million cover the expense of this venture?
And how about their 80 or so teachers? Are you aware those teachers could bump Granite teachers from their jobs if they have more seniority and the same credentials? Is that fact or fear Dee?
Ultimately this will never happen. Madison and Venice might have asked Granite to take students under NCLB but those folks aren't ready to give up their district in whole. I just wonder what the underlying reason is for the community group to start this proceeding.
