The state of New York was going to let a prisoner get a heart transplant who was serving 18-40 years for the brutal rape of a 12 year old relative. It would have cost almost $800,000 for the transplant, but thankfully he voluntarily agreed to take himself off the transplant list after public outrage in New York.
Why should the state of New York have even considered paying for this? If he hadn't have agreed to take himself of the list, it would have been done, a Supreme Court decision in 1976 made it mandantory for states for pay for the same medical treatment that people on the outside would normally receive.
Why are we more concerned about the rights of murderers and rapists then of victims in this society?
