I hope to meet him as well. As for the District being in a "mess"? Let's analyze that statement.
People: Last year the board dealt with four or five personnel issues involving misconduct by teahcers or administrators. This year, all of those have been dealt with and dismissed. Problem solved. I'm betting there's not an organization or business that doens't have some bad apples.
Test scores: They're low by state standards in some areas. I won't talk about NCLB but from what I read, it's an unrealistic program. That said, what could any school board member do to change it? Are we saying that a ndew board member can help the schools achieve 100 percent compliance in the next few years? I doubt it.
Dress Code: I'm so tired of this. The kids I see walking to school look nice. When i go to an event at the high school, the kids look nice. Is there really a problem with looking nice? I for one don't see the boys running around with their pants to their knees any more. I don't see girls running around with words on their rear ends. They're kids. They can do what they want later.
Finances: Well, from the comments I read from Mr. Briggs, the state led by those good old Dems owes this school district over five million. If they had that would they be totally solvent? That's almost ten percent of the school budget being witheld. Could we as residents survive if someone took ten percent of our money?
I went to graduation last year. There were about four hundred students. Probably fifty of them won the "Principal Trophy" which means they had better than a four point GPA. ( I think anyway )
So in matters of finance they're fine. In matters of education, I'm sure everyone wants higher test scores. However I'm sure glad to see so many kids doing well at the high school level.
Granite kids do well. I don't think they're being deprived of a good education. So my question to your guy and all these new candidates is, " what can and will you do better"? Oh and if you tell me you won't hire your friends or relatives, I'll have to chuckle and hold you to it IF you get elected.
