First off, let me thank you for the little hint of Vote VIP and Burton. I was going to stay away from this thread and let it fade away, but since it has came back, I'll put my twos cents in, if you good people will allow me too. At first I too thought, what the hell are they doing on 270 to begin with, BUT after a little thinking I've decided, so what, I'm sure that any calls they would receive from within the Village would take priority over 270, would we rather have them sipping coffee locally or looking for violators be it speeding, drugs or whatever, AND if they are sitting on 270 and doing a lawman's job, they are not burning up gasoline, which the village does pay for. As to the Frank Laub issue, guess that does concern me on the surface, if he was under the influence he should have been arrested the same as any other citizen, again I say IF as I do not know the facts. I remember one time years ago, I was stopped on Lake Drive on my Motorcycle for speeding a little, and I was warned only, I was very thankful then and still am, hell that was like 20 years ago. Moneywise, I do think our officers should make whatever is comparable to surrounding cities, etc, to insure after the cost of training them is not wasted by them going to a higher paying locality, now I'm not saying over and above only comparable in order to keep. As to the number of officers, I really don't know at the current time how many we have, but my feeling on it would be that there must be some kind of ratio as to the number of citizens protected. If and I say IF again we are over maned, then rather than lay off someone, I'd be more in favor of not replacing someone who may decide to leave. I've been on lay offs during my work career, and it an't fun for a family man, and I would not attempt to put anyone in that situation if it could be avoided at all. Village being broke, I'd like to see ALL the figures not just the summaries or totals, and are we collecting the same taxes from everyone, or are some being left out, is everyone paying a utility tax I understand some are not, is there any properties surrounded by the Village and should be annexed. You see a number of questions, hopefully if I am elected some of these things can be worked out, and balance the books, AND please remember I will have a learning curve, but hopefully it will be a sharp quick one taken on two wheels.
