Greg, I will be happy to answer that question for you because, as some of you know, my husband is the Storm Preparedness King! We have an enormous generator, it runs our furnace, our refrigerator, the main television, the cable box, a couple of lamps, computer, modem...you get the picture. The answers is....extension cords, extension cords, extension cords! The most important in weather like this is our furnace, which is gas, it has an electrical switch to run. The first extension cord goes directly to the furnace in the basement, there is a receptacle on the side. According to the "SPK" the refrigerator is always optional, in weather like this. Depending on how much is crammed in there, you can always opt to put your stuff in coolers, or in an "unheated" garage. I personally prefer that he just plug it into the generator. Our stove which is 220, we don't worry about. It draws a lot of power from the generator, so we use a big electric skillet, the microwave or the crock pot for meals, all can be connected to the generator. Did you know you can even bake a cake in an electric skillet? We of course run power to a television, cable, computer, lamps, etc. We had a smaller generator when the storms hit in the summer of 2005 and that prompted my husband to buy this monster that sits dormant in the corner of our garage when it is not needed. He has already moved it to it's proud and rightful position, the gas cans are full, and the extension cords are organized and at the ready.
