Seriously forty to forty five years ago, it snowed much more often and much deeper in Granite than it does now.
School snow days were very few and far between. And I don't ever recall school being called off for temperatures.
And back in these olden days girls were not allowed to even wear pants to school, so your mother trussed you up like a stuffed turkey swaddled in itchy wool, pulled out your coat's matching leggings, twirled as she piled on the scarves, hat and gloves, and you walked to school.
It was more like waddled to school, in snow up to your knees, while peeking out of the only area left exposed on your entire body, your eyes!
I remember our teacher systematically peeling the layers off all of us kids as she lined up our rubber boots on newspaper, only to redress each and everyone one of us at three o'clock for our trek home, and my personal trek was four blocks.
There was only one car in our family back then, which left me and my siblings on our own as far as going to and from school. But we left with a gullet full of hot cereal and returned to homebaked cookies and cartoons.
Yeah, we grew up the tough way. It taught us to be self reliant with a feeling of purpose and satisfaction for being able to accomplish what we needed to do.
