    No, the difference is in objective.

    -With WWII, we saw utter and complete victory, and we saw it relatively quickly (4 years).

    -With WWII, the human cost / casualty was almost unimaginable by todays terms. I believe the U.S. lost on the order of 400,000+ troops. Unimaginable.

    -WWII was a completely different type of conflict. Our government has never took nearly complete control of the economy & production like it did in the early 40s.

    Sure people had pride. It's simply much too hard to celebrate when your engaged in a perpetual guerrilla war, with no results, a huge debt cost, no end in sight, all while watching the Asian nations steadily creeping up on us.

    That said, I've seen much celebration when people return home. Have you ever been to a welcome-home party? Or been at Lambert when their plane rolls in? Trust me, the pride hasn't away.
