Again, Gary, 15 minutes? I think not Well, you'd be wrong. For the vast majority of the general assembly they spent fifteen minutes listening to the floor debates and that was it. In the senate it was actually less than that. About nine reps had to approve it through committee, which is also a very quick process for most bills. The only time this becomes a long process is when there are constitutional arguments or if there is federal law that supercedes what is trying to be passed in the house. The only person / people that put any amount of time on this was the original chief sponsor(s) of the bill and the person that works for the house dems that wrote it. Im pretty sure that the people of illinois were not demanding we let gays have civil unions.. Well, again, you'd be wrong. Regardless, it doesnt matter if it was thousands or just one person demanding it. If a rep has a constituent ask him to take something like this to the floor they have the responsibility to do it. You sound very selfish when you talk about this. "I dont care one way or another so they shouldnt be wasting their time on such nonsense." Well, to many people this is a big deal.
