That would address all the old grease and oil and the few things you can do with the motor short of professional repairs. If that does not fix the problem you may have to look for a donor motor. As you said, the square bodied motors are not so common. You may (and I don't know this for certain) be able to use square motors for other cars as donors. Just be aware that not all square bodied motors are dual speed.
When I worked on our GT6 wiper motor and took the steps above I was able to improve its speed but it never reached the value published in the factory manual.
I wish I could offer more insight and advice.

: Hi All.
: I took my wiper motor out last fall
: to clean it up and paint it but now
: that I have it back in the car things
: are not the same. It never had much
: power before but now it won't even make
: one revolution with the wipers hooked
: up. When I disconnect the crank arm
: that pushes and pulls the wipers it
: will run all day. I can move the wiper
: arms easily by hand so I know nothing
: is binding up. The brushes in the motor
: are good and the armature is smooth and
: clean. What could be the problem here??
: Also I would gladly purchase a new
: wiper motor if I could find one but I
: have not seen the square bodied motors
: for a long time. Any ideas??
: Thanks. P.J.
