By default, Chromebooks will show a lock screen when waking from sleep, requiring you to sign back in. However, you can disable this setting if you prefer to unlock your Chromebook without signing in again.
Also it's the same with microsoft laptops. The reason for having it set up as a defualt is because people with laptops tend to use them in places besides at home so if they're out doing something and they put their laptop into sleep mode by shutting the lid, they don't want anybody to come along and open the lid and snoop around on their laptop.
Now that i know that signing in after waking is a default setting, I'm leaving it that way because i have a maintenance man and a manager who come into my apartment to do work when I'm not home and I don't want them to snoop on my cb.
I also googled Shut Down on a cb and see that yes a cb does come on by itself when the lid is open and that you do need to sign in and that isn't a default setting, you can't change that action.
