Indeed, the Perak family is fiendishly complicated though now a lot simpler than it used to be. Until Sultan Yusuf, there used to be many more of these Royal titles. He took out a chunk from the middle rank. Until then, the appointments were made in a very complicated way. Put simply, appointements went to two alternative branches of the family. The complications involved in arranging things so that both branches had a shot at the sultanate was mind boggling. --Previous Message--

: I've always found the Perak royal family very
: confusing, they have an intricate succession
: and quite many titles.
:
: Raja Nor Kamar binti Raja Salim was married
: to a former Raja Di-Hilir of Perak. This
: title indicates he was on his death the
: second heir to the throne. Succession in
: Perak is by appointment inside the reigning
: family.

: Her husband, whose name was (Raja) Ahmad
: Hisham (1906-1997), was the eldest son of
: Raja Abdul-Malik, the fourth son of Sultan
: Abdullah Mohammed Shah II who reigned
: 1874-1877 (when he was deposed).
