There are 14 states that NO supervision is required. If CRNA's were governed by the medical boards that sure would not happen, regardless of provider shortage.
The ASA feels that ONLY anesthesiologists may perform regional anesthesia or peripheral nerve blocks, why? Because no one but a doctor has the knowledge to handle the complications related to these forms of anesthesia. Well this is obviously untrue as these forms of anesthesia are performed safely by CRNA's every day.
Efforts by medical associations have always been to limit practice by non-physicians, regardless of need or circumstance.
To reiterate another point which so many CANNOT seem to understand, I DO NOT FEEL THAT AA'S ARE UNSAFE PROVIDERS JUST HEAVILY EXPLOITED, nothing negative about that, just an observation.
