Hi Mary in KC I agree with stanley Kristiansen, Dave J & Me. The way I see it Mary go with your heart a lot of people don't want to admit the truth or just can't dish it out truth. The reason why you have so much animosity AA-C/CRNA debate it's simple "fear" from other insecure CRNAs (not all CRNAs think or agree with their colleagues). AA-Cs do the exact same cases in the ACT in the same manner as CRNAs doing all types of surgery & specialties. The only differences between "both anesthetists is that the vast majority of AA-Cs are Allied Health Anesthetist not nurses with patient care back ground & critical care experience.

FACT:There are R.N.s (BSN/ADN)who are allied health anesthetist.

R.N.,M.S.A.,A.A.-C.(Master of Science in Anesthesiology, Registered Nurse Certified Anesthesiologist Assistant/Anesthetist).

R.N.,M.M.Sc.,A.A.-C.(Master of Medical Science in Anesthesiology, Registered Nurse Certified Anesthesiologist Assistant/Anesthetist).

R.N.,M.H.Sc.,A.A.-C.(Master of Health Science in Anesthesiology, Registered Nurse Certified Anesthesiologist Assistant/Anesthetist).

    Other allied health care anesthetist

R.R.T.,M.S.A.,A.A.-C.(Master of Science in Anesthesiology, Registered Respiratory Therapist Certified Anesthesiologist Assistant/Anesthetist).

Cer.A.T.,M.M.Sc.,A.A.-C.(Master of Medical Science in Anesthesiology, Certified Anesthesia Technician Certified Anesthesiologist Assistant/Anesthetist).

R.C.P.,M.H.Sc.,A.A.-C.(Master of Health Science in Anesthesiology, Respiratory Care Practitioner Certified Anesthesiologist Assistant/Anesthetist)

In conclusion Mary anesthesia is anesthesia, anesthetist is anesthetist regardless whether your a A.A.-C. or C.R.N.A. both are highly respected by ASA/MDA & AOA/DOA and the "patients". The future for A.A.-C. is very bright so in my opinion it only makes sense to go the A.A.-C. route with already having bachelor's of science degree in Biology-Genetics with out back tracking having to obtain a second bachelor's degree in nursing & wasting 4-5 years just to become anesthetist C.R.N.A. when there's a shorter route to the same pathway of being an anesthetist (A.A.-C.) as a C.R.N.A..

This is why it's so important as Allied Health Care Profession to start supporting one another across the board. Prime example look at the nursing profession they support each other across the board why do you think the nursing profession have so much leverage and/or power? (simple they all support one another on all levels).

It needs to be the same for all allied health care profession there's strength in numbers we need to start supporting one another and stop always running to the nursing side for support. Be proud of being an allied health care professional and be proud of who you are and your accomplishment you don't have to be a nurse to be "respected" although a lot of nurses want you to think that(not all nurses think that way).

I really hope that the AANA & the AAAA can some how work together as a team when it comes to patient care which is most important. But as Dave J stated he don't see the AANA doing just that and neither do I why? because the AANA are all about protecting their jobs or should I say $$$money(greed, instead of patients). For the record not all CRNAs agree with the AANA and their tactics and/or politics when it comes to accepting A.A.-C. as qualified anesthetist in the ACT or practicing in all 50 states that A.A.-C.s rightfully deserves when working in the ACT.

A.A.-C. are under the supervision and/or medical direction of an MDA or DOA in the exact same manner as C.R.N.A.s in the ACT.

Which ever route you chose to take I wish you the best in your future as a anesthetist A.A.-C./C.R.N.A. you will be highly respected either way
