Look this is not a PhD. It is a clinical doctorate, the clinical doctorate it PT, audiology, or nursing are usually 3yrs after a BSN in the discipline so adding 1 year to a masters evens it up.
As for equality with doctors I wonder if these charges are layed out at audiologists, or physical therapists? It is not about being called doctor, it is about turning out the best prepared provider possible, if you view your profession as just the procedures you perform then you are no more then a technician, something every CRNA is adamant that we are not.
If you want to be a mere technician great if you want to learn more and do more it takes longer, as for the online components If you have to sit in a classroom to be taught you are not a candidate for any advanced degree anyway, self discipline is what makes a professional.
