I think it all depends upon what route they take to the doctorate.
Are they going to do it like a PhD program? First a BA/BS then a MA/MS then a Doctorate?
Or are they going to do it like MDs? First a BA/BS then straight to the doctorate program and come out with a doctorate degree without having first gotten a masters?
Either way, I think it will kill Nurse Anesthesia. With that much schooling AND the cost related to same, it would be much more logical just to go the MD/DO route in the first place.
If the AAs stick with a masters, they may find they will REALLY fill a void that my fellow nurse anesthetists made in their desire to "upgrade."
Thank God I will be retired by 2025 and will not have to deal with that crap.
