Dave, Thanks for your response. The thing is, I care about quality of patient care and work, but I also want to maintain some sort of lifestyle. That's one of the reasons the AA gig is attractive; I can make $150k/year and have none of the headaches of business ownership -- I would only need to focus on anesthesia and my day-to-day interactions with patients. How low do you think the AA salary will/could drop? To $75k, $80k? Besides being an AA, the other options I've considered are being some sort of dental specialist, although they are threatened by decreasing insurance reimbursements, themselves, especially since a recent trend has seen a vast number of dentists sign-up with insurance companies. I have also considered medical school, but if other specialties will eventually be subjected to the same pay cuts that are threatening AAs, that might not be such a wise idea. Additionally, one of the big pluses to being an AA is that I would graduate after just two more years of school after college (putting me at 23/24 years of age when I begin my first year of practice), whereas, being a doctor, I'll be in my early thirties before I even begin practicing.
