I taught CNRA anesthesia for 8 years. One of the "rules" I use to push was NOT to be the first one to dive in and try a new drug. Let someone else find out all the problems (and deal with all the lawsuits). But it seems at the two programs I worked with, neither agreed with me and they would always be teaching the latest and greatest. The only control I had was when I supervised a student one-on-one in the clinical setting, I could make them stick to the old stuff. Thus none of my students got stuck with the problems related to Ultiva, Raplon or Desflurane. Then they got to sit back and listen to the other students (and CRNAs) explain their problems at the QA meetings. I can sit here today and say I never got caught with any of the "start up" problems of these or other drugs. Call me chicken. I will call you a lawyer.
