I do remember at one time that the RN's were trying to make the OR all RN based, but realized that wasn't going to work. They hated the idea of surgical technicians in the operating room. What it came down to, at least here in Pennsylvania, is that they were trying to kick out the people who knew the role the best because that is all they do... day in and day out. So at my hospital, the surgeons complained. And when it comes to Neuro, Ortho, and Peripheral Vascular, I can run circles around an RN scrubbing or circulating. And as a Surgical Assistant, a RNFA who was suppose to have 5 years experience had no clue of what her role was in surgery. I would like to believe that that was just the shock of the moment. And a nurse looks at me like I am beneath them.

This is what I am referring to... its the fear complex. No matter what area of expertise, some nurses believe that they should be the only other set of people, besides physicians, to handle patient care. It doesn't work that way.
And I am tired of nurses acting like they have "something on me" because I am not a nurse. A have an A.S. in surgical technology, An A.S. in surgical assisting, and a B.S. in Biotechnology. So, of course I am running into the nurses the say I shouldn't apply to an AA program because I don't belong there......How does that work?
