Here's some food for thought: #1. Nurse Anesthetists have been around for some 50 years longer than MDA's. We are trained and licensed to practice independently of a MDA and always have been. AA's don't seem to be. #2. MDA's have always wanted control over CRNA's and, for the most part, have failed in that effort. It's about power and money and the MDA's want to have ultimate control over both. #3. Since the MDA's can't control CRNA's, they seek and support an alternative provider that they can control, the AA. I bet they never explained it to you that way did they? Well that's what my 25 years as a CRNA has taught me. The AANA is powerful and CRNA's do stand together. You might ask yourself, would a hospital administrator have reservations about hiring an AA if he thinks there's a good chance he will loose several CRNA's over it and then face difficulties in recruiting replacements as well. Humm... It's possible. Anesthesia is a great career and a wonderful service to your fellow man. Don't short-change your training.
