Well, today I listened to an episode of "No Stupid Questions" (which I know I've also mentioned is a wonderful podcast), and it provided me with the following delightful passage, part of the "fact check" they do at the end.
One of the hosts was discussing a near-death experience which happened to him, but he wondered briefly whether it happened under an overpass, or on an underpass. This is the sort of thing which I notice because of my love of words. The producer/fact-checker noted:
An overpass can only exist in relation to an underpass. Without an underpass, an overpass is just a bridge. Without an overpass, an underpass is just a tunnel. So the dangerous incident with the tractor-trailer must've occurred on an underpass, beneath an overpass. However a road can be both an overpass and an underpass simultaneously, if, for example, it's part of a multi-level highway system.
"Without an underpass, an overpass is just a bridge. Without an overpass, an underpass is just a tunnel." *LOL* I love it! I've decided this is my unexpected delight for today.
Anybody out there been delighted recently?
