The G3 class battle cruisers had no formal names allocated to them. Speculative names included Invincible, Inflexible, Indomitable, and Indefatigable. It was the N3 class battleships (not the G3s) that were to be named for the patron saints of the British isles: St. Andrew (Scotland), St. George (England), St. David (Wales), and St. Patrick (Ireland).
Respectfully submitted. Previous Message
The models are the French Normandie (Navis NM-400N), British St. Andrew (Neptun N-1108), and American Saratoga (HAI-706). The latter does have two funnels, but the second one, just before the rear cage mast, is a little hard to see in the picture - sorry!
The Normandie was laid down in 1913 and launched in 1914, just after WW1 began, but never completed. Probably because of the cost of the war and the design was outdated by 1918. One of her 4 sisters was completed in 1927 as the aircraft carrier Bearn .
The N3-class fast battleship St. Andrew (one of four planned) was cancelled as a consequence of the Washington Naval Treaty before being laid down.
The battlecruiser Saratoga (shown in her final design here) was one of six laid down in 1920, but was completed as an aircraft carrier in 1927 (along with Lexington ) while four sisters were cancelled by the Treaty.
All the models closely follow the deck plans given in Siegfried Breyer's "Schlachtschiffe und Schlactkreuzer 1905-1970". I have no idea who was responsible for the masters. Previous Message
All three were cancelled under the terms of the 1921 Washington Naval Treaty of 1921. The smallest is the French NORMANDIE Class. A couple were laid down but never completed, although one, BEARN was completed as an aircraft carrier.
The middle one is the planned British battlecruisers of the G 3 Class. None were laid down.
The last is the U.S. CONSTELLATION Class of which two, LEXINGTON and SARATOGA were under construction, but were converted to aircraft carriers under the allowances of the treaty.
What could have also been included here were the Japanese KAGA and AKAGI, two more capital ships under construction that were likewise converted to carriers. Previous Message
