Re: Model identification
The ONI manual info conforms to the model shown in Sammelhafen. I have seen the model elsewhere, and the one you posted is the only one that I have seen with the funnel in the wrong place. Since this is a one piece die cast model it seems odd that this one is different from the others.
Looking in ONI208J, I see no tanker of this design with a funnel so far aft. Until further info. is found, my guess it's a mistake by South Salem.
Mitsubishi SAN DIEGO MARU, 1928. Similar to SAN CLEMENTE MARU, 1937. See ONI-208J p.287. May be an answer there. Remotely a possible mistake by South Salem.
The number 13 on the bottom identifies it as SAN DIEGO MARU by South Salem. A photo of this model appears in Sammelhafen.de. But what’s odd here is the placement of the funnel which does not conform to either the real ship, or to the one pictured in Sammelhafen. Why this is is a mystery to me.
Can anyone identify the model in the pics?
