    Mike, from your description it sounds as if the left firing pin was replaced and it is too long. But that is not helping you right now. My suggestion is if the gun does open a 1/16" find some thin steel that fits into this space like steel shim stock, say a 1/32. I would file a bevel on the one side and put the bevel going in towards the breech and using downward pressure try and slide the firing pin back. (like using a credit card to open a door, but I didn't say that).
    Also if the gun is open that much try putting a long dowel in the muzzle and tap it lightly with a hammer, this might free the firing pin up enough.
    Let us know how you make out.
