Stephen, what I would do is get a set of feeler gages, they can be the short ones and usually start at .001 and go to .025, some higher. Start with a .002 and go along the bottom rib on each side to see if the feeler gage will slide under the rib. If it does in one spot go to the other side and see if it slips under there also. If it does that is why you are getting the dull sound.
It is not uncommon to find small areas along both sides that were not soldered. Just hope that if your barrels were re-blued that they were not hot blued. In time the hot bluing solution eats at the solder and the rib/s get loose.
If it were mine and I found a short section (2-4") that was loose, I would keep an eye on it after shooting to see that it did not get longer, or you could send it and have it re-soldered which means the barrels have to be completely redone and then re-blued. Probably in the vicinity of $500.

As to chamber length, both that I had measured 2 15/16". It is marked Chambers 3 Inches in an oval and this one and the other both had the re-enforcing loop.

Not all Longrange and Wildfowl were 3" chambered, only if marked on barrel flat. I've seen more Wildfowl that were not.
