    You need to tin the mating surfaces with old lead/tin solder, not the new no lead type. I use acid core to tin with because it does a better job of fluxing. You MUST clean all the acid flux off before you join the two. Wire and wedge the rib in place and using rosin core solder join them together. Clean and polish the affected area.
