A few of the L.C. Smiths in the Hunter Arms Company ledgers were shipped to Buckingham, Ensley & Carrigan. If any Smiths were "consigned" (using that term) to this or any other company, I have not observed it the record. While a company could return a shotgun to the factory, these returns usually happened within a month of the initial shipping. Shotguns consigned to well-know shooters or celebrities were returned from six months to two years after the initial shipping.

Serial Number 91527 was "consigned" (using that term) to Nash Buckingham, not Buckingham, Ensley & Carrigan, to be used free of charge and to be returned to the company. The return was done 15 months after the consignment. While it is possible, I believe that it is unlikely that Hunter Arms would lend a shotgun to Buckingham so that one of his customers or friends could use it.
