Nash was in the sporting goods business, Buckingham, Ensley & Carrigan, from 1917 through 1924, then moved on to be the director of game restoration at Western Cartridge Co. in 1925. BE&C continued on into 1928. I'd guess Nash needed a gun to shoot at Nilo Farms and an L.C. Smith rep happened to be handy, this being in the time frame before the Olins acquired Winchester.
