Bill, I am a far cry from a HOT expert, but I offer this possible solution. I believe the non-selective trigger is inertial, that is the recoil of the first barrel "sets" the second trigger, and your problem may be an obstruction or dried lubricant keeping the second barrel from functioning properly. I would remove the sideplates again and spray brake parts or carburator cleaner on the trigger mechanism, very lightly lube, and try it again. Be sure to avoid getting the spray on the finish, as it and stock finish don't get along.
