Field Grade 16 Gauge Archived Message

Hello, i just inherited a LC Smith double barrel shotgun and was told it was a 16 gauge. As i looked through this site, my serial number location shows a FW then the word Field under it, then S7***, comes out to a 1946 gun it seems. It is a single trigger with safety on top, and a left/right switch on bottom. I would like to know if anyone knows what type of steel barrel this is and what kind of rounds i can use. I purchased some Remington Express Long range shells are these too strong? They have a warning not to use in Damascus or twist steel barrels. Also, whats the best way to store this gun, unloaded of course, but closed or open, safety on/off, triggers primed or fired? I apologize if the questions seem naive, but my only experience with firearms is my old single shot 12 gauge.
