Hello Bill, You would have had to have carefully measured the chokes of your L C Smith BEFORE you shot BISMUTH through your SXS and then carefully measured the chokes again AFTER you shot BISMUTH through your SXS to see IF there was any change. Even if the barrel steel expanded upon firing and then immediately sprung back and returned to its original measurement that movement would not be beneficial to the top rib and the bottom rib. I suspect that this type of movement, expansion and contraction, is what caused the top rib to pop loose at the muzzle of a very nice old classic A H Fox "A" Grade with tight chokes.
