    Robert,
Congratulations. I had that gun on my watch list, doesn't mean anything, I have a lot of guns on my watch list.
In my opinion, I don't think the pits are going to get worse, especially using today's oils.
It looks like the gun was either stored in a damp place or newer wiped down when wet to get those pits on the outside like that. The blotchy places are probably from handing and the moisture from the hands turned that, my guess.
To get rid of the pits usually means tig welding and then filing flat again and then re-bluing.
Just my thought, you could use a Scotch Brite pad, brownish one and go with the length and clean the barrels up and re-blue them using Oxpho Blue from Brownell's. The pits will still be there. Give it a few coats.
I think that is a nice gun especially with the straight stock and being 110 years old and neglected. There is no question that Lowe's (Paul) gives you plenty of pictures.
I think the Ideal Grade 16 he has had there is nice, he didn't re-list it as of yet. Item # 8678271
