    Help. Grade 3 Archived Message

Posted by Robert D. on July 9, 2008, 7:50 am

I just received my second grade 3 yesterday fron the ups man. I had a 3E 7 yrs ago, kept it two, and like an idiot sold it. I'm keeping this one. It has been said on the doublegun bbs or somewhere that the barrels make/break a gun. Without decent barrels all you have is a papreweight. This grade 3 I now have I recently won AA #8645240. If you go there, you'll see it. I'm at the point in my life I don't care if others see what I gave for it or not. I wanted another grade 3. The gun appears have had an old refinish done to the wood years ago.

The only thing about it, and I knew it when I was bidding on it, was the barrel condition. The barrels have pitting on the outside, the inside of both bores are mirror. The pitts aren't deep, they're just there. They are Nitro Steel.

My question is two-fold. Is there a way to arrest the pitting until I can get it attended to? Would it kill the value further to send the barrels off, get rid of the pitts, and have them re-rust blued?

    Thanks, Robert D.
