The topic of chamber length is more complicated than it appears. When we are told that a gun is designed to shoot a certain shell length, it doesn't mean that's the chamber length. Brophy shows certain chamber dimensions that don't agree with SAAMI specifications. I have measured some of my 12 ga. guns using the .780 diameter SAAMI spec. Another complication is that you never know which chambers may have been lengthened over the years. My modern Browning chambers, which haven't been messed with, run 2.870-2.885 to the .780 diameter. Using the the same method, my LongRange eagle measures 2.965. However, a 1942 military WildFowl measures 2.836. My guess is that this gun is chambered for 2 3/4 inch shells.
