    Smith stock identification Archived Message

My Smith is a Ideal Grade 12Ga, 28" Bbl.hammerless w/ SST, AE, and BT forend. Serial No. FWE20050XX with a letter I under the E.

The barrels are marked "London Steel", and they, along with the original stock, are numbered to the gun.
The metal and stock are both 99%+.
The original stock has a straight grip with a 141/2" pull. Unfortunately it developed a wrist crack and it and the forend were replaced in a high grade French walnut by Paul Jaeger while he was still in Je4nkintown, PA.
Now my question about the original stock, which I still have is ----On the left side of the stock wrist and over the crack is a 2 1/4" long raised
image of a flying bird. It was beautifully done and I would guess it was an expert repair. Or could it have been a factory special order? The bird does not cover any of the checkering.

    Thanks for any help!
