Re: The Kingston Trio and John Stewart
Yes, money and politics. What I heard about that was that John took issue with Dick Cerri with regard to the fee we were paid for our performance at that tribute. Apparently there was some misunderstanding about that, because John was also offered a performance fee for his part in the WFMA John Stewart Tribute a couple years earlier (for which we were only given airfare). However, he also requested that WFMA fly in members of his family for the event, the cost of which apparently came out of John's performance budget, leaving John with very little. We, on the other hand, paid for our families to come to The Trio Tribute out of our own pockets (I think just Bobbie and Meri came) and that did not impact our performance fee. Anyway, it was too bad that John elected not to participate in the video, since he was such an integral part of the Trio's history. I also seem to recall (I haven't watched that DVD in quite some time) that all mention of Dave Guard and Nick Reynolds was edited out. I know I paid tribute to Nick at some point in the show, and I believe George tipped his hat to Dave. What's a Trio tribute without even a mention of three of the guys who carried the group thru the '60's? Odd, we thought! I think in reality it should have been a Bob Shane tribute, since he's been the mainstay throughout and that's kinda how it ended up anyway.
