Re: Zigzagging as a defense against submarines in WWII
Having been on a DDR for 3 years I too wonder about zig zaging as a defense against subs. We trained asw almost all the time when at sea and a friend who was on a sub said we could not hide. As soon as they figured out our course when we were going to zig and when we would zag the time between these manovers they had us. I would think such manovers in a convoy with a lot of ships would have to be timed very nearly perfect or the result could be mass confussion resulting in collisions. But then what do I know , I was an electrician mate and not overly concerned with such matters.
