Re: Reinforcing shift fork
geesh! thats is a tough one. But as far as the engine goes it has Honda B16A rods with ARP bolts. The crank is super light, knife edged and balanced. The rod journals on the crank were cut down 0.037" to fit the Honda rods. The rods are longer @5.29" giving it a 1.79:1 rod ratio. The factory rod was shorter @4.75" giving a ratio approx. 1.62:1 . (A stock 350 Chevy was 1.64:1 but the 327 was 1.75:1). The head is a 1980 casting #395. It is heavily ported and unshrouded by a pro for $500 with Ferrera stainless valves oversized 1mm to get a fresh seat. The springs are from Lazer cams I got them from a guy off of the racing site. I run solid adjustable lifters and a lunati cam (278° and .441 lift). Felpro blue head gasket and ARP head bolts for a Mitsubishi 2.0(I think). The pistons are 0.060" over Ross custom billet pistons with press in the rod tool steel pins for $800. The compression height is 1.0" (factory was a tall heavy 1.5" compression height piston). The 4 pistons and rods are 2.2 lbs. lighter!!. The intake is a Chevette /Skyhawk hybrid with 50lb injectors and a GM 3.1T engine throttle-body. Lightened flywheel with a stock 9.125" S-10 clutch. New steel oil pump raised to 60psi. There is over $3000 in the engine + the turbo ,inter-cooler, piping, Exhaust and intake manifold, Fuel system and engine management. Then there is the rear end cryo treatment $250 bearing kit $125. The exhaust $100(bent myself from 2 1/4" aluminized). The paint $750 for materials (painted my self). The 180c automatic (that I built with a nice shift kit and loose converter). Then I switched to t-5 with a Camaro 0.79 overdrive ratio (stock is 0.89). Stereo with Kicker 400x2 amp diving 4 speakers and a Sony 800 watt sub amp driving JL audio 10" sub. I drive 2 3.5" speakers with the head unit that is some cheap Walmart deal that has an internal I-pod dock that is cool as hell. I did the interior myself but it is always being improved. In the 5 years I have owned it I have put 55,000 miles on it and no one but me has ever done any work other than machining and porting. So my $200 dollar car gets 53mpg (old engine) 35 mpg (new engine) and I have around $5000 in it. My wife said YOU PUT $5000 IN THAT CAR when is going to end? I said ,I bought your 2009 TDI Jetta for $27,000 and you have dented or scratched every panel or surface but the roof and I have spent $1400 repairing it.
