There was/is a guy named Ed Werick who owned a Chevette with a 4.3v6 He was also hand building a custom roadster with leftover Chevette parts.
There was a picture online of a clutch fork he modified, I can't find it now though, the caption was something like "clutch fork modification ed werick style"
He had welded a piece of steel in the C channel area of the clutch fork to box it in and keep it from twisting.
I don't know if that fork ever found it's way into a car. If it's what Rob was suggesting or even where these clutch forks are prone to bending. That was just the first thing that popped into my head when I read it, so take it with a grain of salt.
