With these amiibo, I have to say that the continued low supply has kind of dried up my enthusiasm. I saw Toad on the wall when I made my Kirby purchase. In my mind, I was thinking, "If I don't get him now, just because the package has some handling/shelf wear, he'll probably be gone."
What happened was, I kept not finding him, which led to looking on the websites to check retail store inventory. All of the locations that claimed to have low stock were 50+ miles away in the area where I grew up. A Target that said he could be picked up in store didn't have him on the shelf. One employee asked me if I had any questions, but I didn't mention that the Target site claimed they had him available for pickup. A GameStop in that area claimed to have him. I went to the store. He wasn't there. Toys 'R Us took down their online page for the Toad figure. I went inside the TRU in that area. Those stores all seem to have 50+ amiibo in stock (not unique characters, but the total stock). He wasn't in the main section. I turned the corner and looked at the glass case with the game discs. Up on top, TWO Toads were hanging from a peg. Guess what? The box had a frayed corner, but I gave up on my ideals of "perfection."
A different TRU (a little closer) told me about the in store pre-orders tomorrow. I'll probably stop by to pick up other figures, due to the current sale, but it's not worth camping out. I think only Greninja is exclusive to TRU, but the employee mentioned PAC-MAN also. I'm not sure what PAC-MAN's amiibo might do in games other than SSB. He's just one of those iconic characters, making me wonder why Nintendo would limit his release. Assuming that were to fail, I know about the retail date they're expected to be in store (5/29).
Other than that, it just doesn't seem like Nintendo wants to sell these figures. Unless people are lying in their Twitter comments, certain pre-orders through GameStop (Marth, Ike) aren't being filled. I did notice that Marth's page on GameStop was saying he'll come back on May 1st, but then it disappeared (maybe from the backorders?). Other pages of rare figures either got taken down or don't show up in the search results.
Basically, I'm not believing that any "pre-order" guarantees you a figure. What if the store messes up and sells too many pre-order tickets? What if they get less figures than Nintendo allotted to them? The store websites have already proven they're not accurate, or fully up to date. It all seems unreliable.
I'm probably the most disappointed in missing Fox and Rosalina. With Rosalina, I'm not sure why . I think I used her pretty regularly as a driver in Mario Kart Wii. Chances are, there will be more future Mario-themed games, compared to almost any other Nintendo series/characters. Fox seems to have these weird "placeholder" pages on Best Buy and Target. Then you read that he's out of stock online, and not sold in any Target stores!! Maybe, just maybe, he'll come back when they finally manufacture Falco and release "Star Fox" on Wii U???
The thing that makes the least sense is how you seem to NEED the Toad figure specifically for a bonus mode in "Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker," but they made him rare for some reason? By definition, anyone who can't find a Toad won't be able to unlock that extra content? Why wouldn't they just have some kind of in-game DLC where you can pay extra to unlock these bonuses? In Mario Kart, the only "unlocks" I've seen listed are for your Mii character to wear a dorky hat/helmet?!! Probably a dozen or more of the amiibo from the SSB line are drivers in that game, so why wouldn't the bonus apply to that character? I even used Toad as a driver in the demo version. Then again, would they have to create a new line of toys just to cover every playable driver?
Besides the amiibo, I've noticed that some of the Wii U games are already disappearing in disc format. There might be a few places still selling "New Super Mario Bros. U," but just via the online store. I realize it's probably on the eShop, but I'm more about physical copies. New Super Luigi U (is that the title?) just went out of stock in the physical version, but I think the digital copy was cheaper from the start. That game didn't look as fun, because they want you to speed run every course. I picked up "Wind Waker HD" before it disappears (The Legend of "Cel-da"??). That would actually be my first time playing it, despite how I owned a GameCube system from day one of its release. The "NES Remix Pack" looked pretty neat when I played the demo. All I really tried was the part where Mario is stuck on run in a flying fish stage, and you have to figure out the jumps to keep him alive. How many times did I make the SAME mistakes?!! The other stage looked like Donkey Kong arcade in the dark (you only see a circle around Mario, like a few stages from his platform games).
I don't even have a Wii U, but I'm buying these items anyway? It's not really making sense. What I really need is a job.

: I just want to say that I'm pleased with how
: the compatible ones work with Mario Party 10
: in Amiibo Party mode. Each day you scan
: then while in Amiibo Bonus mode you get a
: new base for your character. In game they
: store tokens that you get during gameplay
: which essentially means that when you start
: a new Amiibo Party game, you can actually
: equip your first token that you want to use.
: After that you get others each time someone
: buys a star. When a star is bought half way
: across one of the 4 sides of the board a
: token appears and if you happen to get
: there, you can get and use the token. Some
: can give you extra dice or add more to your
: roll or put more coins or stars on the board
: for your turn or even trade out 1/4 of the
: board for another character's piece. :-)
