: Amiibo you have unlocks another game and
: each game has from 4 to 10
: "scenes", essentially various
: points in the game. And you can't call it a
: "money grab" when it's FREE.
I didn't realize (until listening to/watching an Amiibo News video podcast today) how you can actually play. Which Smash game had the "Masterpiece" section? That seems like almost the same idea. It bugged me how the F-Zero race always quit in just about the same spot on the track . How would you switch "scenes" in a game or try to access more games? Do you have to tap the same amiibo or a new amiibo each time you play?
The other thing they talked about was how, why can't it match the game to the amiibo, instead of being random? I could kind of see that (like, Little Mac activating "Punch-Out!"?), but then, what about Rosalina, Olimar, any Pokemon, the "Fire Emblem" characters, Sonic (?) ... who didn't star in a game from the SNES or earlier? Plus, since Little Mac is so rare, it might block you from ever accessing certain games without the random element.
: Choosing a kart then tires then the glider
: sure doesn't make it "complex" in
: any sense of the word, but it is a cool way
: to add in a bit of a customization element
: as well as finding a combination that works
: for you.
Maybe we have different ideas of "complex" ? I felt almost lost when it was just a choice of several karts and motor bikes in MK Wii. What's the difference between most of them? I remember how something like the "Dolphin Dasher" was almost unusable for me, because the drifting was more sensitive than using whatever other bike I used most often (the one with a big star?).
: The only real problem with MK8 is
: that drifting crap you now have to use. No
: longer can you just accelerate (or let off
: of the gas) and steer. What's worse is
: aside from a few of the bikes it does this
: wonky thing where when you start a drift
: it'll swing you way outside and just doesn't
: feel natural or intuitive at all! Why oh
: why couldn't MK8 play more like Mario Kart
: Wii just adding in vehicle customization,
: tracks and DLC, Mario Kart TV, and pretty
: much everything MK8 brings to the table but
: went backwards on the actual gameplay
: mechanic? :-(
You HAVE to use it? I might see that as a positive. It was a little awkward playing the demo (the tablet is so big). I mostly used a Wavebird in MK Wii. You don't want to see me with the Wii Wheel!!! I even put the drifting on manual.
: I'm not sure how my Mii handles compared to
: other characters because, as I mentioned,
: there's really only 2 or 3 motorcycles where
: dealing with that drifting crap even feels
: halfway usable.
Are the bikes supposed to be better somehow? It probably depends on the collection of courses in a cup. I remember how karts have a second level of boost, but you'd need to hold the drift much longer.
: That's a complaint? It's so awesome that
: they are bringing other elements and games
: into the Mario Kart world!
I sort of mean how it's less "Mario" now, and more like "Nintendo Kart," which may be a better title.
: The only reason someone buys a bunch like
: that is most likely to turn around and sell
: them on eBay for profit. :-( I really hate
: how so many people today are more concerned
: with that than just buying the one or two
: they intend to use or as a gift and letting
: everyone else who goes to that store get one
: at the normal price, too. :-(
Well, guess what? I went to the four local stores not named GameStop (I can't view them as selling "new" unopened games somehow) ... and didn't see a restock of any rare characters. Twitter feeds are showing Lucario and Dedede some places. Maybe my town isn't considered a big enough market to distribute rare figures? I'm amazed at how the demand has stayed so high when Nintendo keeps goofing up the supply. Some people say it's on PURPOSE, to make a few of them more "collectible." How do you figure? The people who can't spend hours camping out in line to PREORDER a product that might not be there on opening day must not be able to unlock content in certain games. So far, it's kind of lucky that the Smash series are more useful in that game than anywhere else. I didn't realize how not all of those trophies actually unlock a Mario Kart costume (only certain ones), and the ones that might also work in a "Hyrule Warriors" or "Mario Party 10" seem to do the same thing.
