: seems so "passive." You get to
: WATCH someone else's highlight videos for up
: to 3 minutes? The way they put an eShop
: icon to the side makes it seem like a money
: grab.
No, no... you PLAY for 3 minutes. And each Amiibo you have unlocks another game and each game has from 4 to 10 "scenes", essentially various points in the game. And you can't call it a "money grab" when it's FREE. Now, sure, it's something that might inspire people to buy Amiibo characters but that's okay. That's no different, really, than a store having a rewards card. If you go out of your way to buy stuff just to earn points, you're dumb. Just like if you buy Amiibo JUST for Amiibo Tap, you're dumb. But if you have Amiibo for other reasons this gives you something to do with them. The reason for the shop icon is in case you play a game and want the full game. So essentially while Amiibo Tap is a standalone thing to play, it's a GREAT tool for offering demos of various games.
: Is that where the helmet looks like a live
: version of the arcade game? I only saw a
: clip from the DLC or during Nintendo Direct.
: The MK8 game looks pretty neat. I hadn't
: played MK Wii for a while, until this past
: weekend with my cousins. I still HATE blue
: shells (4 of them hit me at Coconut Mall),
: and is it me, or are not many of the courses
: very memorable? I've only played 8 as a
: demo, and the graphics are pretty sweet. It
: seems almost TOO complex now, since you're
: picking tires, a "glider," going
: underwater ... I MIGHT be interested in the
: costumes (too bad I didn't buy Sonic or Mega
: Man while they were well-stocked), but how
: does your Mii character handle? Is it
: basically like using any other
: "heavyweight" character (fast, as
: long as you can keep from crashing)? In the
: Wii game, I mostly use Rosalina (and get
: laughed at by my girl cousins) or Funky Kong
: for whatever reason. Bowser is usually a
: bad guy, and who are the other heavy
: players?
Choosing a kart then tires then the glider sure doesn't make it "complex" in any sense of the word, but it is a cool way to add in a bit of a customization element as well as finding a combination that works for you. The only real problem with MK8 is that drifting crap you now have to use. No longer can you just accelerate (or let off of the gas) and steer. What's worse is aside from a few of the bikes it does this wonky thing where when you start a drift it'll swing you way outside and just doesn't feel natural or intuitive at all! Why oh why couldn't MK8 play more like Mario Kart Wii just adding in vehicle customization, tracks and DLC, Mario Kart TV, and pretty much everything MK8 brings to the table but went backwards on the actual gameplay mechanic? :-(
I'm not sure how my Mii handles compared to other characters because, as I mentioned, there's really only 2 or 3 motorcycles where dealing with that drifting crap even feels halfway useable.
: The main thing I haven't liked about the DLC
: is the way it's sort of a "Nintendo
: Kart" game now. What do Link or
: "Animal Crossing" have to do with
: a Mario game? They already started some of
: that in MK Wii with Diddy (his first
: appearance?), Funky, DK Mountain, DK Summit
: ...
That's a complaint? It's so awesome that they are bringing other elements and games into the Mario Kart world! The Animal Crossing track is cool because each time you race it you could get one of the 4 seasons. Spring and summer have a few ramp jumps in different places. Autumn has piles of leaves that, like Maple Treeway on MK-Wii, sometimes cause a mushroom to pop out. And Winter has a few snowmen in the tree section that you need to try and avoid. The two F-Zero tracks are pretty cool as is the Excitebike track and how the jumps set up differently each time you race the track.
As far as selectable characters I couldn't really care much less about that since, unless I have a crazy hair, I just use my Mii. But more various characters sure isn't a bad thing as it gives people more options to have different favorties.
: Meanwhile, what emotion do you have from
: seeing this picture?
:
:
:
: It looks legit. The question is, why would
: Wal*Mart let an idiot buy up the whole lot
: of Gold Mario? What does golden Mario do
: differently from the other Mario figures?
: It might not be a big deal to miss out on
: him as far as the "Mario Party 10"
: content (the game gets mixed reviews). He
: just looks cool as a collectible.
The only reason someone buys a bunch like that is most likely to turn around and sell them on eBay for profit. :-( I really hate how so many people today are more concerned with that than just buying the one or two they intend to use or as a gift and letting everyone else who goes to that store get one at the normal price, too. :-(
