In spite of the language and lengthy reading, this is very informative...and only the beginning. I did not highlight specific passages figuring if your genuine interest is piqued you will certainly find the answers to all the questions so many residents have been asking. If you read through Installment 1, it is evident that comparing the pending demise of Granite City to the death of East St. Louis is not a new narrative. The results of this study predicted it 26 years ago. Also, per the study results presented in installment one, the city was being ran like a family business. In my opinion, no truer words have been spoken. Leave your hands off my money. Leave your hands off my family's money. Please note: "Over 70 percent of the city's cost is personnel-related...". Back in 1993 that left less than 30 percent of Granite City's revenue to maintain or improve our infrastructure and services, (sewers, streets, etc.) and yet we ask ourselves why our city looks like shit! OVER 70 PERCENT OF REVENUE WAS SPENT ON PAYROLL, INSURANCE, VACATIONS, SICK DAYS and who knows what else. Is this part of the "financial hemorrhage" outlined in the study? Installment 2, enjoy. Tune in often, Installment 3 coming soon. Very soon.
